Negotiations on July 6 & 7 addressed workload, compensation & other topics
The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met on July 6 and 7 for a total of about 3 1/2 hours.
Discussions covered a range of topics, including workload, compensation, shared governance, selection and hiring processes, and other contract provisions.
The teams reached tentative agreements on changes to a few articles, including changing the equal opportunity statements in Article 2 to address Senate Bill 1 requirements, and changing some timelines for the grievance procedures described in Article 4.
Faculty team members said the discussions this week were productive.
“We shared our perspectives about workload, compensation, and the value of Cincinnati State faculty, not just in helping our students succeed, but also contributing in many other ways to the College’s overall success. We felt like the administration team was listening carefully to our insights and concerns,” Julie McLaughlin said.
“We still have several important issues that are not resolved, but it felt like we made some progress this week toward finishing the discussion on many topics,” Mark Tiemeier added.
The teams agreed to schedule additional days for bargaining during the next two weeks, with the next session planned for Tuesday, July 14.
“We appreciate that the administration is making more time for bargaining available, so we can try to complete discussions of all issues efficiently,” Julie said.
The Faculty team spent over 6 hours on Monday and Tuesday planning for future bargaining sessions, and will continue preparing this weekend for bargaining next week.
“This week’s bargaining wrapped up with a collaborative tone, so we hope we can make significant progress at the bargaining table during the next two weeks,” Julie said.
Faculty members with questions about negotiations should contact AAUP Chapter President Abbey Yee.
