Faculty Compensation proposal presented at May 31 bargaining session
The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met for about two hours on May 31, and made progress in resolving some topics.
The teams reached agreement on two articles: small changes to Article 15 (Professional Enrichment), and some changes and clarifications to language in Article 7 (Selection and Hiring).
The administration proposed some small changes to Article 11 (Electronic Course Development) and discussion of this proposal will continue at a future bargaining session.
The Faculty Team presented a proposal for Article 8 (Compensation).
• Before sharing the proposal with the administration team, the Faculty Team members presented data comparing Cincinnati State faculty raises to cost-of-living data (the U.S. Consumer Price Index) from the past 5 years, and comparing Cincinnati State faculty raises to the raises received by faculty at comparable Ohio community colleges.
• The Faculty Team also described some of the thoughts and feelings of faculty members who responded to AAUP surveys and shared their concerns in forums, work groups, and other AAUP meetings.
Faculty Team member Pam Ecker said, “The administration team seemed to be listening carefully to our compensation proposal and the information we presented to support our proposal. We’re hopeful the administration will give our proposal serious consideration.”
The Faculty Team met for several hours before and after the bargaining session and continues to appreciate the array of snacks provided by faculty colleagues.
Bargaining will be paused for several weeks to accommodate vacations and other obligations that affect both teams.
The next negotiation session is scheduled for Monday, June 26– the day before the June Board of Trustees meeting.
Faculty members with questions or concerns about negotiations should reach out to Chapter President Abbey Yee or other AAUP officers.
