AAUP presented Workload proposal at May 30 negotiation session

The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met for about an hour on May 30.

The Faculty Team asked some follow-up questions about changes the administration proposed last week for Article 7 (Selection and Hiring), and then the Faculty team presented a proposal for changes to Article 9 (Workload). The proposed changes address issues that were raised by faculty members in forums and work groups held during Spring Semester.

Faculty Team member Julie McLaughlin said, “We appreciated the administration team’s questions and their engagement in the discussion of faculty workload concerns. We’re looking forward to more discussion of these important topics at future bargaining sessions.”

The Faculty Team met for nearly 5 hours before and after the bargaining session to prepare for negotiations, and appreciated the snacks provided by faculty colleagues that helped the team “power through” a long day.

The team also met for several hours on Sunday and Monday to prepare for bargaining this week.

Another bargaining session will take place Wednesday, May 31, but then negotiations will stop for several weeks because of vacations and other obligations that affect both teams.
