Bargaining session on June 29 discussed many topics

The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met for 2 ½ hours on June 29 and discussed a wide range of topics including benefits, shared governance, selection and hiring processes, and some aspects of faculty workload.

The teams also continued discussion about possible changes to contract language stemming from Senate Bill 1 requirements.

Faculty team members said the tone of bargaining continues to be positive for the most part.

“We talked about some significant differences in faculty and administration viewpoints about some of the issues,” Pam Ecker said. “These discussions are difficult at times, but they are also very helpful in getting a more clear understanding of each other’s concerns.”

The next scheduled bargaining sessions are July 6 and 7.

“We hope that next week, the teams can reach some conclusions and agreements on some of the issues we’ve discussed in the past few sessions,” Pam added.

The Faculty team spent 3 hours on Monday planning for next week’s sessions, and will meet again for several hours on July 1 to continue preparing for next week’s bargaining.

Faculty members with questions about negotiations should contact AAUP Chapter President Abbey Yee.
