Faculty Team considers new proposals from Administration at Aug. 5 session

The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met for about 2 hours on Thursday, Aug. 5.

The Faculty Team members said most of their time was spent listening to and asking questions about administration proposals.

Faculty Chief Negotiator Greg Klein said, “Some of the administration’s proposals today seem to be moving toward contract language we might be able to agree on– but we remain far apart on several crucial topics.”

“It’s still not clear if we will be able to come to a complete agreement at the bargaining table, or if we’ll need to move on to other parts of the process outlined in Ohio’s collective bargaining law, including Fact-Finding,” Greg said.

If the Fact-Finding step occurs, unresolved issues would be presented to a neutral third-party who is jointly selected by the two sides from a list of names provided by the State Employment Relations Board (SERB).

Fact-finders are individuals with knowledge of Ohio’s collective bargaining law and experience dealing with and recommending resolution for disputes between management and labor.

Another bargaining session is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 6, starting at 1 p.m.

“The Faculty Team will bring another comprehensive counter-proposal to the session tomorrow,” Greg said. “We hope to provide a solution that both sides can agree to.”
