Bargaining session on June 17 discussed multiple contract articles

The Faculty and Administration bargaining teams met for about 4 hours on June 17. Faculty team members said that although there were some contentious moments, both sides agreed at the end of the session that some good progress had been made.

The two teams reached agreement on changes/updates to some of the language in Article 2 (equal opportunity/affirmative action) and the portion of Article 6 that discusses retrenchment of academic programs.

Other topics discussed at the session included contract articles related to governance, selection and hiring, the tenure process, and contract provisions for annually contracted faculty.

Discussion also covered some of the contract language that describes faculty workload.

A bargaining session originally scheduled for June 18 has been postponed because of the College’s commemoration of the new federal Juneteenth holiday. The next scheduled bargaining session is Friday, June 25.

The AAUP Professional Enrichment Committee has prepared a report and recommendations for possible changes to Article 15 (professional enrichment). The report will be discussed next week by AAUP officers and bargaining team members.

Faculty members with questions or concerns can reach out to AAUP Chapter President Pam Ecker or to the AAUP Bargaining Council co-chairs, Marianne Niese and Jessi Loomis.
